Contemporary Surreal Artist Focus on the Artist Suzi Nassif and Salvador Dali
The emergence of surrealism brought the art world into a different dimension. Surrealist artists had one objective and that was to unlock the creativity and imagination of the unconscious which they believed that was suppressed by the rational mind and running free with ideas that they believe was the way forward. Proposing that their style should ignore the normal reasoning and rationality, they found a way to express themselves in an unusual way both in arts, surrealism photographs, cinemas and literature. Using the theoretical work of Freud they were able to unleash what they called the hidden suppressed aspect of their unconscious mind, presenting to the world what still gets the audience to wonder. Each of the surrealistic artist have his own symbols to which he centered his surreal imagery, for Dali Salvador is was found in his depiction of eggs, cheese or lobster to Max Ernst’s obsession with birds all gave their artistic work a different niche of mastery yet encompassed in the Surrealism.
The fascinating thing about surrealism is that it’s still standing despite the huge change in civilization contemporary artists are making waves in the industry of arts, not bound by any specific style like their predecessors having employed a modified wide variety of techniques to illustrate their beautiful mind. For example the photographic images of Kim Keever that captures the very element of chance. Although this can’t be said about Salvador Dali who despite he was expelled from the group in 1934 got to be known in the world more as a surrealist artist and his style of work, makes his work live as a contemporary artist of all ages. Being obsessed with themes of death, decay and eroticism, Dali’s work goes to encompass fetishes, animal imagery and religious ciphers. Dali grew to be a flamboyant personality who saw revealing secrets in jokes opposing objects gave him a seat as a legend causing his abstract oil paintings to be studied, even long after he is gone which depicts what he said that “I will live forever”.
Another contemporary artist who though born in this generation that is making waves is Suzi Nassif, who is an inventive digital surreal artist and just like Dali she has created artistic portraits that has aroused so much emotions, painting a collection of digital surreal collections. Suzi goes on to attribute most of her work to her life experiences merged with the inspiration she got from studying Dali’s artistic work. Suzi likes to experiment with colors and styles, playing with at some acrylic and oil to produce master pieces which according to her gives her the time to work at various stages and layers of her work thoroughly. As a contemporary surrealistic artist Suzi believes that you can see into the mind of people through their eyes, making every of her portraits different as they all say a different story based on the gaze of each individual she meets and like Dali, Suzi is writing her name as an icon in the art world.
