Makeup shaming on social media is increasing rapidly and it is something women should not have to worry about. It seem that makeup shaming is making women feel awful for wearing makeup because they are being seen as doing too much. It appears that women who do not wear makeup are being and complimented as being more real, while women who wear a lot of makeup are said to be insecure. People need to understand why women wear makeup and why the amount of makeup they choose to put on their skin is nobody's business but their own. I searched for the word “makeup” on twitter and I found multiple criticisms and insults at women who wear makeup.

There’s a double standard when it comes to makeup and if a woman wears too much makeup people will say that she’s fake, or that she’s sending a wrong message about the way she looks. There’s a lot of bullies on social media nowadays and it seem impossible for a woman to feel comfortable and beautiful about wearing makeup, without listening to what the critics have to say.

Most of the women I spoke to about makeup shaming said that they wear makeup because it enhances their beauty and it helps make a good first impression. When you meet another individual, your first impression of them is made before you address them; which implies that your initial introduction of them is construct on their appearance. Makeup helps boost a person confident and when you look great, you feel certain as though you can go against the world. If makeup helps you build an inspirational point of view, then that is a good benefit.

Some women cannot imagine leaving the house without applying makeup to their skin. Some of my female friends I asked said that they feel more confident going to work, school or running errands with makeup on. This includes the use of mascara and lip shine to a face full with powder, eyeliner, eye shadow and a few layers of lipstick. The measure of makeup that influences a woman to feel confident varies. Young girls regularly wear makeup to look older.

However, women who are past a particular age depend on makeup products to help them to look young. Not only does makeup shaming add insult to injury, it is bad for women self-esteem and can affect their mental health. For instance, I was told by a friend that she stops doing makeup tutorials on YouTube because she felt awful due to negative comments from cyber bullies. At the end of the day, nobody has the privilege to tell a woman what kind of beauty is appropriate for her because using makeup should be a positive and a pleasurable experience.
