If you are not black, you may not understand the concept behind the movement, “#BlackLivesMatter.” Your next question may occur like this: “Doesn’t all lives matter?” Of course, all lives matter. The critics of this movement may suggest that #BlackLivesMatter has no agenda besides yelling, protesting, and disruption. These are false, Black Lives Matter is “an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise.” Black Lives Matter is about emphasizing fundamental human rights, such as having equal opportunity, being respected and protected by government officials, and eliminating racial profiling for the African American community.

Based on the Merriam-Webster definition, equal opportunity means “freedom from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, age, or sexual orientation.” Black lives have not been supported by this definition, and therefore, have not been provided the same opportunities as others. When applying for a job or reputable university, we are instantly asked: “what is your race?” Once marked African American, many employers would immediately look at the name of the applicant. When they see a stereotypical “black”-sounding name, they would look past the resume, and onto the next applicant. “Why does this occur?” one may ask. In a study conducted by Dr. Colin Holbrook, a research scientist at the UCLA Center for Behavior, Evolution, and Culture, indicates that: 'men with black-sounding names are more likely to be imagined as physically large, dangerous, and violent than those with stereotypically white-sounding names” and students with stereotypically “black”-sounding names are labeled as “troublemakers” by teachers. For blacks to be provided equal opportunity, one must eliminate the image of the stereotypical black person.

The #BlackLivesMatter's movement emphasize being respected and protected by government officials, the same way all other citizens are provided their same rights. If a crime occurs in the black community, police officers and other public officials should be responsive and investigative as they would in any other community. In 2015, Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African American, died after suffering a fatal spinal cord injury while riding insecurely in the back of a police transport van. All six officers involved in the case pleaded not guilty, and none was convicted. “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe!” cried Eric Garner, a 43-year-old African American father who died after being wrestled to the ground in a chokehold by an NYPD officer. The Grand Jury declined to indict the NYPD officer, after watching the evidence of the officer’s arm wrapped around Garner’s neck. When will justice be served for our black lives who died in the government’s hands?

Black lives suffer through racial profiling within communities. An African American can be viewed as a threat for walking in a neighborhood, that others don’t expect them to live. In February 2012, a neighborhood watchman failed to follow the instructions of not approaching “the suspicious person” given by the 911 operator. Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African American dressed in a hoodie while eating Skittles and drinking Arizona Iced Tea, was shot and killed by the neighborhood watchman when walking to visit his father. The neighborhood watchman was later found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter. What gave the neighborhood watchman the right to kill this innocent black male and was not held responsible for this brutal killing?

With the right to speak freely comes certain duties regarding every single individual, among those being that we as a whole should know about the intensity of our words and activities, and how they may play into impact later. While the Black Lives Matter development is moving and I bolster it wholeheartedly, it is hard to take a gander at the activities of delegates and individuals from the gathering without certain considerations of analysis, and a development of contemptment for the gathering and its decision of such radical, eye catching self-naming. Crushing the windows of police vehicles and attacking officers is clearly not the intention of the gathering, and it is in no way, shape or form a 'Detest Group, for example, the KKK, regardless of what number of people clueless on the planned reason for arrangement of the gathering. The expression 'Dark Lives Matter' is effectively misjudged and misconstrued, and with numerous people declaring themselves to be agents of the gathering brutally lashing out and talking so boisterously on certain uncivilized subjects, it is extremely simple currently to misconstrue. The term is authored essentially as a route at last to express that we are for the most part equivalent, and police killings of ethnic minorities, significantly African Americans, cannot go on without serious consequences in the scarcest. With such rough connections to the gathering, the name starts to be connected increasingly more with so much pessimism as abhor bunches as the KKK, and it turns out to be progressively apparent that an alternate name may have given an alternate result to the gathering's picture.

According to Yancy and Butler “Being authored the development and advancing the utilization of the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag crosswise over numerous online life stages makes the development profoundly disputable and delicate, as it is anything but difficult to misconstrue the message and the importance of these words” (9). Many battle back against this development, advancing the utilization of hashtags on twitter and blog locales, for example, #AllLivesMatter, and #BlueLivesMatter, in reference to the cops whom have been focused on and additionally generally ambushed by maverick dissidents or those whom guarantee to be a piece of the development or delegates of it. It is obvious that however the intensity of the development is generally gotten from its incredible, eye catching name and nearness, it is straightforward that the debate encompassing the development and its size is legitimately gotten from that eye catching name. On the off chance that this exposition is discovered copied anyplace, it would be ideal if you realize it is on the grounds that I utilized more than one paper evaluating/editing site that I fail to do full research on because of time imperatives and a super downright awful fit of anxiety I am having while re-perusing and endeavoring to address this with the goal that it remains on theme.

Black Lives Matter is “a call to action and response to the pernicious anti-Black racism that permeates our society.” Black Lives Matter is “a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes.” Black Lives Matter is about emphasizing equal opportunity while being respected and protected by government officials and eliminating racial profiling for the African American community. #BlackLivesMatter is more than a hashtag. It is a movement in working towards a world where Black lives are no longer “systematically and intentionally targeted for quietus.”
