Aristotle’s work can help each of us find our own practical answer to a critically important question, 'What meaning does my life have?'. He notes that if you ask people what they think is the highest good achievable by human action, they will all give the same answer: happiness. Aristotle confirms that this answer is in fact correct. Aristotle claims that to act virtuously means to act in the most excellent way for that activity. Unlike intellectual virtues, which are taught, moral virtues are a result of habit. We only become truly moral by constantly doing moral acts. In the company, we have many opportunities to interact with one another and every interaction with other people is a chance to hone our skill of acting virtuously. Virtuous actions are those that represent the golden mean (the midpoint) between two extremes: an excess and a deficiency. Both the Excesses & Deficiencies are vices. Every moral virtue is an intermediate between extremes. Ethical decision-making gets easier if we establish a habit of aiming at the mean.
