Why I Choose To Study Molecular Pharmacology
Where do you want to see yourself in the future? Probably one of the most asked questions we all face in our life. For me the answer has always been the same and it is to be a “Scientist” in the futuristic workplace of tomorrow. The perception of delving into the unknown has always tempted me since my young days. Six years of academic study as a student of pharmacy has only further restated my desire to pursue a career in research. Hence, I envision a graduate study in pharmacology as a path towards my procession in this direction. I have been so blessed to be a part of health science, supervised by expert academics with great values and principles. My overwhelming interest has literally driven me to choose “Pharmacy” as my major in undergraduate and graduate level study.
I completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) by achieving cGPA 3.32 out of 4.00 (cGPA 3.52 out of 4.00 in last 2 years), and a Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) with a cGPA 3.75 out of 4.00. My course curriculum in undergraduate study has helped me in acquiring a firm footing in various topics including pharmacology, physiology, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, toxicology, taught by highly qualified and competent faculty members, and also through regular laboratory practices. In addition to that, I was involved in a project that was funded and operated by Khulna University Research Centre of Health Science for the isolation, structure elucidation and biological activity determination of certain plants of mangrove forest “Sunderban”. The time I spent during this project boosted my confidence over various skills necessary for performing advanced lab research, such as dealing with animal based experiments, cell culture, chromatography methods, electrophoresis and so on.
In MSc program, I have worked on several research projects as part of my M.Pharm thesis which were mostly related to the pharmacological and phytochemical evaluation of natural products/drugs on the outcome of a disease, resulting in 3 publications in peer reviewed journals. Those research activities not only sharpened my analytical skills but also elevated my interest towards molecular level activity. Hence, I started to feel the urgency of attaining a higher study in such an environment that can provide me sophisticated lab setting with cutting edge technology and a chance of working alongside world-class mentors/supervisors. Thus, my pursuit for getting enrolled into the MSc program in Pharmacology at the University of British Colombia is the refection of my long cherished aspiration and my future commitment to the ever growing community of this holistic profession.
I am interested to work on the molecular pharmacology with special attention to neurological and cardiovascular drugs, their interactions with specific receptors/enzymes. My ultimate goal is to attain a highest possible recognition in this field and to contribute to the discovery of something novel as an intervention for life threatening diseases. As part of academics, I have undergone one month industrial training program at one of the leading pharmaceuticals in Bangladesh entitled “Aristo Pharma”. This program helped me to learn the different aspects of pharmaceutical preparation, quality control of sterile drugs, hands on experience with HPLC, GC, and AAS etc. I would really love to be a part of your master’s program in order to show what I have to offer to this research field. I believe that joining in the master’s program that your department offers would be the optimum way for me to employ my personal qualities and to apply and extend the knowledge and experience I have acquired till date
