Respect is a two sided relationship, so will not work as effectively without the co-operation of both parties. In the child parent dynamic it is a huge duty of parents and other caregivers to first show and teach children the value of receiving and giving respect and this will come from the behaviours, mannerisms and speech adults project towards children. It is unrealistic to expect children to have respect for parents if they do not get it themselves. The essay moves around the fundamental topic of child-parents relatioships and ways to make them healthier.

Respect for Parents as the Basis of Child-Parent Relationship

One of the simplest ways to attain this is to promote the use of manners and to be polite. Please and Thank you are some of the most respectful words someone can use, if children are around adults the use and enforce this value the children in their care will follow that example. The motto 'lead by example'. Using manners towards children shows them that they are valued. From personal experience i know that parents want to be liked by their children but it is essential to set boundaries and rules that children need follow and parents actually enforce.

Parents are not their to be the children's friend. If the line is crossed and children do not respect the parents authority they could potentially run amok and it shows they have no respect for the adult. Children's lack of respect for parents, as stated in the essay, could result in poor behaviours and a decline in school work and overall treatment towards others. Children are not and will never be perfect, so it will be vital that they do not feel to much pressure and displeasure from adults. The significance of this is if when children make a mistake or have a bad day they do not become too stressed over the situation.

Conflicts need to be resolved quickly so as not to fester and be dealt with calmly. Children will push the boundaries and make parents angry at times but it is vital to refrain from shouting and acts of aggression and definitely no physical violence. Following this means that children will understand what they have done wrong and work on a conclusion so it doesn't happen again. Most importantly children are not scared of their parents. Developing healthy boundaries and being consistent even if they do not realise it at the time shows that they are valued. It goes without saying that showing love and affection is a respectful tool and it should not be based on conditions.

Children should never feel that have to earn their parents love and safety. Children that have love and compassion will go on and give it to others to experience the same feelings. You do not need to love someone to be respectful but it adds to the overall treatment that is received. We can all say nice words to strangers but it means more when it comes from someone that you love. Another behaviour that shows respect is support. Children will mess up and make wrong choices but a child having support of loved ones will promote respect as their decisions and opinions are valued. It could have been wrong but the trust is there for the child to go on and correct it. Even if the child is right and succeeds it shows that parents respect their judgement. It is always important to use kind words when talking to children, it is respectful.

Conclusion

Children copy what they hear and it is vulgar to hear a child swearing and making nasty comments. Belittling a child in not healthy and will stunt their development and confidence and will likely lower their self-esteem. There is no respect on either side of this situation. If a child see that his parents show respect and trust other adults as well as to children they will behave in the same way. Parent are rulers, not the childrens. They will take example and follow adults both in positive and negative attitude.
