The Impacts of Mexican-American War on the Relationship Between the Two Nations

Americans and Mexicans were brutally caught in a serious disagreement of boundaries that later resulted in an outbreak of war between the two states. The war took place from 1846 to 1848. This war left an immense number of citizens dead as well as leaving properties of large value either destroyed or displaced. Afterall, it was the Native Americans who raided the Mexicans due to border issues deciding who would take control of the territories. A lot of chaos took place that led the Mexican state to be overthrown by the Americans (Juarez, 96). The loss of war by the Mexicans made them feel disastrous. This made the Mexican state go back to the drawing board and conduct self examinations to address the reasons that may have boosted their loss.

Later they realized that the lack of preparedness of the war and army weakness were the primary two reasons why they lost the war. In every war there must be challenges and impacts which the concerned parties experience after the end of the war. It was and is made more than clear that Mexican American has for years faced a lot of injustices which mostly have been depicted by the war. These injustices include; Mexicans’ land being stolen by the United States, many suffering from the acts of racism, abject violence and legal systems which enhanced their problems (Horsman, 34). Another injustice has been contributed by internal colonization by the states. Internal colonization was used by the native states to control other people because they are immigrants. It is extremely crucial that the concerned parties are to be compensated in some way.

Firstly, as a result of the war, loss of the northern part led to the displacement and migration of majority of the Mexicans to America. This is due to the fact that the Mexican state was forced to surrender its vast land in the northern part after it was subdued by the Americans (Horsman, 137). By this party being compensated, it would greatly help reduce the population in the United States. The ones who migrated would be able to return back to their country. In connection to that, the Braceros who were working in Mexico would have their salaries deducted by the state. Those braceros would have to be compensated since they worked hard for it. This being one of the greatest injustices done to them because it was done without their consent. By paying them, it would help in improving their livelihood. Moreover, compensating the Mexicans-Americans will help in fostering the economy of the two states since people will be able to have productive activities brought out by the money granted to them after the compensation.

Secondly, the practice of slavery among the immigrants in the United States was done unfairly to the people. The laborers worked in European farms without pay. Ideally, they would have to be compensated even if some died and their survival heirs may be the beneficiaries. This labor system was initiated by the colonial labor force which purely had discriminative practices as it was imposed on the people who were not American natives. Broke of violence that existed in America led to killings of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in Texas. People who lost their loved ones have to be compensated since their killings were extra judicial. In addition to that, there was a lot of racial discrimination against Mexicans (Horsman, 146). This practice saw many being denied privileges of high class jobs. In return, they were treated as slaves something that made many people suffer due to the harsh punishment given to them. Compensation has to be granted to the surviving workers as well as their heirs and by doing so it will help in burying the historical injustices that were committed to the workers.

There were also injustices experienced for the Mexicans-Americans in the immigration departments as a lot of information regarding their travels was uplifted thus adding many challenges to the ones who wanted to migrate to their countries. The state must compensate the people by lowering the requirements needed for one to travel. This will help many individuals migrate from the states that they are currently residing in (Juarez, 106). The United States may be owed for the series of the suffering experienced by Mexican-Americans since it could have solved those challenges than waiting for the lawsuits to be filed by the human rights commissions which fought for the rights of braceros and other migrants who had migrated to the united states.

Through the displacement of the people from their land, it led to a downward mobility of labor in the country. This event had people as wage workers, or people residing in lumbering camps due to the loss of their traditional land. The state has to compensate the people by resettling them to eliminate congestion in the lumbering camps. Also, dispossession from their land led to the depletion of their economic base of the Chicano state hence influencing their financial position. They have to be repatriated for their economic losses experienced (Horsman, 133). The minorities having being referred as shock absorbers such that during the times of the economic depressions they can only be laid off and the native to continue with the work was a serious discrimination experienced by the minorities. With that being said, they have to be compensated for the time lost and be paid because their working rights were interfered with.

The employers have to be taken into account since they only demanded their interests to be met while the interest of workers was dismissed. Many workers suffered because of rational interest which lowered wages for workers. In addition to that, the employers promoted the racism among the Anglo workers as they could give the natives first priorities than the minorities. Those workers must be compensated since their wages were reduced due to their race. They did the same work, meaning they should of been paid the same.

Conclusion

From the above discussions, it is very clear that the problems Mexicans Americans experienced was as a result of the war that broke up between the United States and the Mexicans as well as the internal colonization among the states. The states which are found guilty of the historical injustices among the people have to compensate them regardless of whether they are alive or not since there are survivors of the workers and the citizens who experienced the said injustices.
