The Imagery And Technological Development In Brave New World
After watching Brave New World I have gained so much knowledge on how many similarities and differences it has with today's society. The Brave New World movie is basically a movie that shows us Satire which is used of irony, sarcasm, ridicule. In Brave New world the targets were to point out the big government that people were controlled by, the labor movements, Materialism, social conditioning, sexual inhibition. The similarities and differences I will be discussing are the world state versus the today society, drugs and sex, technology and brainwashing. These topics contain so many similarities and differences with people feeling happy rather than with today's society and the Brave New World.
The first difference between Brave New world and todays society I will be talking about is drugs and sex. In Brave New World the thing that matters to them the most is happiness. Of Course in today's society as well but we have limits when it also comes to doing things for ourselves and the people around us. Brave New World had no limits when it came to their happiness. For the New World people had to take a drug called soma for them to stay feeling happy and not let anything get in their way of emotions. The drug soma is given out freely and is actually recommended for anyone to take to feel better and forget all negative thoughts. As said in the movie, “One cubic centimeter cures ten gloomy sentiments!” This quote shows how much they had hope in that bill for happiness. In today's society using drugs is still an issue and looked at in a bad way unless your own doctor prescribed it for you for any health issue. In today's society we have some people that encourage others to take drugs but mostly do not encourage anyone to use drugs to make them feel happier. But in Brave New world the drug soma is encouraged by everyone. Another diffference is the way sex is viewed between the two. Sex in Brave New World was viewed as a daily thing to use to make you feel happy with no matter who your sex partner is. In Brave New World having sex with a starnger is seen as something normal and just to satsify youself and would not be judged for. A big reason to why they found having sex with a stranger is the right way because most people did not believe in love. In today's society sex is viewed as giving pleasure to youself and your beloved one not with any stranger. Which it actually still happens in todays socirty to have sex with a starnger to satisy one self but they tend to be judged bcause their is not any type of relationship in between the two.
The first similarity I will be talking about is technology and the imagery. Technology plays a big role in both, Brave New World and today's society that we live in. I guess we can say that since technology came out it has been the most that people tend to rely so much on. Technology tends to bring some type of happiness into a person's life. People in Brave New World and today's society believe that technology stables the world in so many ways. Technology helps people create heavily new ideas that can control the way people tend to think about others which plays a very big role in how society and the environment around us changes. Since the government controls most of the technology and what goes on in the technology that is why humans change their thinking mentally and physically throughout time which still is going around in today's society. But, at the same time there is a difference in the technology in brave New World and today's technology. I say that because, in the Brave New World they believed that a person is created in test tubes rather than in their mother's womb. Going back to the part about the government, in their times they also believed that the government is what controlled the child's stage throughout its stages of developing. This process took place at a building which was named, Central London Hatchery. They processed people through that way because the only way for someone to be happy is for them to be controlled under their science experiments and the government instead of raising someone's mind through school or their own parents teaching them the right way. In today's society we only believe that a human is developed only in a mom's womb and after birth it learns on its own through process with their parents and school unlike Brave New World through government, science experiments, and technology. After all, both use technology to determine someone's life or the environment change. Technology will always be a huge part of each societes life and affect the way people are living.
Another difference I will discuss between Brave New World and in today's society is based on brainwashing and how isolation is viewed in both societies. In Brave New World there is a thing called Hypnopaedia to help brainwash people. Hypnopedia was used by the government to brainwash a person of the world state that admired the systems. They try to put happiness into someone's mind and erase all the governments system that will cause problems or affect on the system they had from someone's mind. In the Brave New World it indicated, “Community, Identity and Stability”, the government in Brave New world cared way too much about not letting anyone or anything to get in the way of what brings them happiness. They relied so much on the community to provide them with the happiness they would brainwash people that tried bringing their science experiments out there or get in the way of their work. The government in Brave New World used Propaganda to scare people if they were to not choose the right choice. They also used Hypnopedia to brainwash someone's mind overnight. Wish recorded voices talking increase happiness in the community and loyalty. They believed these voices helped people forget all negative and add positivity into life. In today's society brainwashing is used when someone is bringing the government's secrets and plans out or someone is against the word of the society and governments policies and does its own way. Now bringing up Isolation and how it is viewed in the Brave New World and today's society.
