Have you ever wondered why violence against women remains a problem and what are its causes? Indeed, today many people are still blind just thinking or saying that violence against women is no longer a problem because we are already in the twenty-first century and we are all open-minded, but the reality is different. women is still a big problem and not only in the United States but also around the world is because I want that just as I know that this is a big problem I want you to also know about the factors for which there is domestic violence as well as the cases of how they get to give this type of violence and finally how it has grown in society or even in some cultures. Some of the main causes of violence against women are first the gender difference (discrimination), second drugs or alcohol abuse and third and last cultural and religious practices.
Defining Violence Against Women
The definition of violence against women is the interaction between two people in which the victim is the woman and is the one who is being attacked with behaviors or situations in a way that causes or threatens to do physical, sexual or psychological harm to a person or in this case a woman, so we could say that violence against women is an aggregation whether verbal, physical, psychological or emotional.
Violence against women has always been a problem for many years, but before the difference in that time violence against women was more seen as a more private problem. This means that if it was published in one way or another it was a fault of respect or inadequate. Besides, it should be remembered that time ago people were more conservative and making a problem such as violence against women would be unacceptable to society that has a conservative thought. That is why it was very common that victims or people who were involved suffered in silence but there were also cases in which there were women who were able to report but in many situations that were seen in a bad way and never found a response from justice. All the above lasted too time and we still live in a world where even knowing that happened many years ago it may still be happening because we are not able to change a reality.
The Main Causes of Gender-Based Violence
Gender Inequality
The root of violence against women is gender inequality. Have you ever wondered what is the cause of men's violence against women? Most of the time the violence of men against women is because of the reason or the result of what we can call gender norms and inequality. Men often feel the pressure to be dominant and have control, in other terms the meaning of pressure may be called friends, father or mother who may have been educated in the old fashion. Referring to the above, some people do not care if they are male or female think or believe that men should be strong and powerful or as many people say ' Men must always be the pants. ' These characteristics are called gender norms.
In several states or countries of the world, men are usually the ones who often have more power and a higher status than women, a clear example in employment since a man is more likely to be your boss. happen in a person's private and public life and probably the more private the more it can happen, in life I mean the workplace, the home, and the community. This unevenness or imbalance is known as gender inequality. Even violence against women is more likely to be accepted more easily in societies where men and women are not equal. A clear example of the gender inequality in which I was present was when at a friend's engagement dinner there was a discussion about the comment of one of the guests in this case was the friend of my friend's boyfriend in which he said 'That her friend did not deserve a woman like her for being poor,' immediately my friend took action on the matter but the worst part was not that if her boyfriend told her 'that he was right, because he was right more power and I had a company and she did not ', time later my friend told me that it was not the first time he did that but in the end I ended up with him even mentioning that he had problems with his company and ended up selling it and my friend became Great in business and she bought it and now he is her employee.
Alcohol and Substance Abuse
The use of drugs and alcohol today in the twenty-first century plays an important role in many social problems since it is very common for people of legal age or even young people to consume it and even see it naturally and probably do not see it in A serious way that can cause consequences is why alcohol and drug abuse is the second cause of violence against women.
On the other hand, as we all know, there is still a person who sometimes uses alcohol or drugs due to social pressures. Young people and older men may sometimes feel pressure to use drugs or drink and this is because they want to prove that they are very male. Also sometimes a man can think that if he drinks more or that he uses more drugs, he becomes more macho, and that can lead to the consequences of feeling much better or bigger in every aspect and that makes him feel women less. Drug and alcohol abuse can lead to loss of home, crime, absence from work, problems to keep a job and mainly violence against women.
Also, a clear example of violence against women was when, under the influence of alcohol, my uncle and my aunt had a fight that included beatings and verbal abuse, which is why women who suffer violence as a couple are more likely of abusing substances than those that do not abuse substances. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) in a study they did showed that 33 percent of women suffered at least once physical violence.
Religion and Culture
Last but not least, cultural and religious practices. Around the world, there are different cultures and religions and each person believes what they want. That is why in some cultures having a marriage and having the woman stay in Home take care of the children and I do everything related to that, on the other hand, those women are the ones who may be suffering violence from their husbands.
A few weeks ago I visited my favorite Zara store in the North Park Mall and just there was an Indian couple and the woman was the one who took the child apart the shopping bags and just when she was seeing a pair of pants the husband tells her, 'Don't buy that because you look ugly' and I'm writing it formally because the bad words are not correct, after the moment he said that the woman turned her eyes and the only thing that answered was 'as you say love, 'immediately my reaction was impressive how she was the victim of verbal violence from her husband towards his wife making her feel with low self-esteem. They have also told me that because they are Indians it is very common that on their part since their cultures and religions are very different from those, we are normally accustomed to. That is why it is always better to get away from where they make you feel less than you are.
Striving for Equality
In my opinion, we women are very powerful, intelligent and dedicated, so if every woman around the world come together and fight for our rights and values, we would have a much better chance of ending violence or even at least improvising, why weigh a woman wants to go ahead and leave behind what happened there are still cases about other women with the same, because just as a woman can get out of the problem, many more can come in. That's why at least one-third of the female population suffered violence of any kind. This is something alarming and something unjustifiable. Violence comes from a macho society that magnifies man above all things, motivating the man to do what he does, this is something that will have a much greater effect on future generations. That is why every woman must be respected and they have to realize they are worth much more than other people make them feel and that if we fight together everything can be done.
Conclusion
In conclusion, violence against women has been a worldwide problem for a long time, even when we were probably not born, and the saddest thing is that it remains a problem. That is why many women around the world have suffered different types of violence and we are still in time to end that as long as we fight together. As Samantha Power says, 'Violence against women is not cultural, it is criminal. Equality cannot come eventually; it is something we must fight for NOW.'
