For at least this past decade, there has been the G.O.P decision to limit reproductive and abortion rights, defund Planned Parenthood, and reverse the expansion of Medicare. The G.O.P healthcare bill is a 140-200 page bill backed by the Republicans to replace the Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare. The new G.O.P bill would make it difficult for Americans to obtain healthcare, and especially hard for women to acquire the healthcare they would need to benefit them. The Republican senate leaders had neglected to allow the women to partake in the new G.O.P healthcare bill. Although there are no women and 13 men writing the new G.O.P health bill in the senate, the effects of the new G.O.P healthcare bill for women’s health is severe due to defunding Planned Parenthood, limiting reproductive rights, and reversing the expansion of Medicare by cutting it off.

Through the latest information about the G.O.P bill, it is said to have tried to defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that supplies women’s health care in the United States and worldwide. Women can get basic health care without having to worry about the costs. According to award-winning Canadian health journalist and senior health correspondent for the website Vox, Julia Belluz explains that “Access to health care and abortion will be more limited through the defunding of Planned Parenthood, and coverage will be more limited through these restrictions on tax credits and access to funding” (“Once again, 13 men wrote a bill that’s bad for women’s health”). As of now, about 2.5 million people depend on Planned Parenthood for their services and health care. This means that some women won’t be able to get the health and reproductive services that are needed. For example, birth control, cancer screenings, abortions, and checkups. If a woman is pregnant then that would require constant pregnancy checkups before and after the baby is born. Without the Planned Parenthood coverages, there would be an increase in pregnancy risks for a woman's life which could lead to unsafe pregnancies and births. Planned Parenthood is an important step to health care for those women to get the services they need.

The effect of the G.O.P law on women’s reproductive rights is being limited through this bill. For example, the bill is attempting to cut off abortion coverages, and the 13 men who have made the health care bill did not include any women to partake in this bill. American lawyer, politician, and Senator Kamala Harris expresses that “The G.O.P. is crafting policy on an issue that directly impacts women without including a single woman in the process. It’s wrong” (“New York Times”). The bill would prohibit people from utilizing tax credits to purchase health plans that cover abortions. It will also take the measure to forbid federal tax credits to help pay for insurance that supports abortion facilities. Altogether there will likely be changes that might abolish abortion coverages with health insurance, but at this moment, it is uncertain, but also safe abortions will be difficult to acquire with this bill. If the bill can pass through the house and the senate, that will affect many women, and soon enough, their children.
