The Downfall and the Uplifts of African Americans

Introduction

Have you ever had a goal, a goal you couldn't overcome or acheive ? Well African Americans had a goal of equality. They wanted to achieve this equality because of unfair treatment. African Americans somewhat achieved equality by many things. America was somewhat a land of opportunities for African Americans.

The Great Depression (Negative)

During the Great Depression, the was massive stock crashes, bank failures. This incident impact all racial or religious groups and main african americans. The Great Depression impacted African americans economically. The text states, “ Lasting from 1929 to 1939, the Great Depression was the worst economic downtown in the industrialization world. While no group escaped the economic devastation of the Great Depression, few suffered more than african americans. Said to be “ The last hired, first fired “ African Americans were the first to see hours and jobs cut, and they experienced the highest unemployment rate during the 1930s. This proves that the Great Depression impacted the can Americans economically.

The New Deal (Positive)

Despite the Great Depression, the New Deal was very beneficial towards African Americans. During the presentation of the new deal, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was negatively touched by the treatment of African Americans. According to the text, “ In 1936, some 75 percent of black voters supported the Democrats. Blacks turned to Roosevelt, in part, because his spending programs gave them a measure of relief from the Depression…”

This proves that the President Roosevelt and the creation of the New Deal was put in place to bring African Americans out of poverty and depression of the aftermath of stock market crashes and bank failures. The text also presents that, “ Roosevelt’s relief programs made him popular with many african americans though he shield away from aggressively promoting civil rights or anti-lynching law, for fear of alienating southern whites.” This proves that President Roosevelt did everything in his power to help African americans with their downfall after World War I.

The 14th Amendment.

The 14th amendment really helped blacks in a way. It granted them citizenship of America. It also granted them equal benefits of other over privileged races. The text states, “ The 14th amendment to the U.S. constitution, ratified in 1868, granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States - including former slaves - and guaranteed all citizens equal protection of the laws.” This proves that the 14th amendment impacted African americans Socially in the United states during this particular time.

World War I

World war 1 was a time where african americans had a choice to fight to gain equality in their lives during this time. African americans also still were not treated right after helping the United states with wars. This impacted them by thinking they were going to get some type of “pat on the back” but in reality they were going remain treated as dirt or ⅗ of a human as white supremacist would say. The text briefly states, “ World war 1 was a transformative moment in African american history. What began as seemingly distant European conflict soon became an event with revolutionary implications for the social, economic, and political future of African americans.” This proves that even after the help of african americans, they were still treat as such even during the European conflict.

World War 2 Impacts

During world war 2, many african american men in particular served in the war and were still racially segregated. Even though segregation was still in place, african american men still fought for the country the lived in and loved. Also, in the war they were treated like less of even if they were fighting for the same thing. According to the text, “... tens of thousands of African americans served in a still segregated U. S.military, serving in transport and armored units in Europe, and performing well in battle, with the famous Tuskegee Airmen squadron as an example.” This proves that the war was very bias and they were most likely angry at african american uplifts.
