The Consequences Of The Lack Of Literacy
Imagine the world if it was filled with illiterate people, it would be under developed and everything would be very complicated. Illiteracy is when someone is unable to read and write. It would be very devastating if the human kind lacked literacy, it would feel like traveling back to history where mankind was still uncivilized. It is very important to be able to read and write because the everyday life and routines requires you to do so.
Illiteracy is the root cause of many problems including lack of job, health risks, and family disruptions. There is a great chance for illiterate people to have no jobs at all. In order to get a job, a person must know how to read and write to be able to follow instructions and orders. If a person is illiterate, he/she is unlikely to be able to fill out applications to apply for jobs. It would be difficult for them to understand what they are reading and would not know what to do next. It would be difficult for them to find jobs because they cannot read. When people cannot find jobs, they fail to blend into the community. When this happens, those people get isolated because they cannot find a decent job to fit into the community.
Illiterate people may also feel embarrassed because they may think that they are at the lowest level of life and other people may bully them because of their inability to read and write. Illiteracy has a great effect on people’s health. For example, people who do not know how to read might have a difficult time trying to take his/her medication because of the inability to read the prescription. A person who is illiterate may also make mistakes during the time of taking medication by not understanding the measurements of the medicine to take or even taking the wrong medication. It may be challenging for an illiterate person to fill out forms and documents when unable to read and write. That is just how hard life could get when a person is unable to read and write.
Lack of literacy is sure to cause family disruptions. Children would not go to school because the family was created without it. Poverty would be likely to occur because no education leads to no job which eventually leads to poverty. The family would then be immune to this standard of living and keep the cycle of producing illiterate people. If people do not get the education they need, they will continue to live a poor quality life.
Literacy is very important to the human life. Without it, life would be very complex and confusing. Most illiterate people today are the result of no education or an inadequate one. The world is moving forward introducing new technologies and innovations. It is very vital that the average human being be able to read and write. It is time to reach out to the disadvantaged children/adults and give them the proper education they need in order to survive in this complex world.
