Strategic Planning And Steps In Accomplishing A Task
Strategic planning is one of the key factors in accomplishing a task successfully being it professional or personal. When a task is given, I would like to start from analyzing the task and consider the deadlines provided. Once the task is keenly analyzed, I would start writing down the list of sub tasks and the amount of effort involved in each task. Starting with gathering the requirements and understanding the amount of time involved in every task, I would write down all the intermediate tasks and the teams involved in completing the task successfully.
Steps in accomplishing the task successfully are as follows:
- Gathering the Requirements Work closely with the teams to gather and discuss the requirements as this is the key to accomplish any task. Once the requirements are clear, the next step is to plan for implementation and Verification.
- A Flow representation of the plan A Diagram representing the plan needs to be presented and discussed with the teams. Any inputs from the individuals needs to be considered and incorporated after careful analysis on the pros and cons of the ideas.
- Official Architecture The next step is to architecturally represent the application and update the same every time there is a change in architecture. This can then be shared between the teams for better understanding of the plan and implementation.
- Implementation As mentioned above the task needs to be segregated into subtasks and approximate time each sub-task needs for a successful completion. I would represent all the subtasks in a Kanban Board and assign points depending on the amount of effort and time each subtask requires and assign them to individuals depending on their bandwidth and expertise. Once the implementation work has started, we might have to consider any blockers constantly checking with individuals. A person needs to be assigned to constantly work with the team and check the overall health of the team. We should keep an eye on the ad-hoc high priority work that needs to be given preference over the comparatively low priority work.
- Verification Once the implementation is done, the next step is to verify if the outcome is as expected and matches the requirement initially gathered. This way we can make sure the task is completed successfully and correct an of the imperfections in the work.
Apart from following the above steps, we need to provide active support and involvement in the process and participate in individual feedbacks to improve the productivity of the work. Team members needs to be recognized and appreciated for their constant efforts and success. This boosts the team’s motivation and dedication towards work. To put in a nut shell, Strategic planning and implementation is the process that adds weight in successful completion of a task. This way we can avoid most of the blockers anticipating them way ahead and being ready for couple of challenges during the process. Planning and organization also ensures we follow a standard for any process and document them accordingly for future reference.
