Self-Driving Cars: Pros and Cons of the Advanced Technology
Imagine that we may be the last generation to own cars, and the new generation may never have to learn to drive a car. They never have to worry about driving anymore because there is a car that can drive itself. A self-driving car is a vehicle that utilizes a mixture of sensors, cameras, radar and artificial intelligence (AI) to travel between locations without a human driver (Rouse, 2019). This is a new kind of innovation. Innovation is about improving stuff, making things quicker or cheaper. Innovation creation helps business leaders, founders, and start-ups to achieve success and great opportunities. Most creative companies need to evolve and adapt to ever-changing needs their products and services such as tesla. This research paper will demonstrate the technology of self-driving cars that provides various benefits to people in terms of safety and convenience.
The self-driving cars ' operating system is capable of semi-autonomously controlling itself. To illustrate, this driverless car technology will help them in term of self-parking and self-destruction. In this autonomous car, they have put three devices which are sensor system, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Global Position System (GPS). The sensor system, there are many kinds of sensors that make autonomous cars a reality. Blind-spot monitoring sensors, forward collision warning, radar, camera, LIDAR, and ultrasonic all job together to make it possible to navigate a self-driving car (“How Self-Diving Car Work, 2018). This sensor will help to park a car because it can scan a space between the car that park. This sensor will interact with traffic data, weather, maps, neighbouring vehicles, and ground conditions. This enables them to better track their environment and makes informed choices. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) will use to control a car to move in a direction that a person wants to travel. To determine the best course of action, all the information the vehicle collects must be evaluated. This is the control algorithms and software's primary function. The Global Position System (GPS) will use to give information to AI to know the location and which direction will have to travel through. In future, this innovation will prove that it is effective and usable to develop. Every year there are numerous opportunities to save countless lives on the highway. The move was designed to support people with disabilities who can not ride on their own, such as the deaf and the elderly (Davies, 2018). Our lives will be changed to make automated vehicles more comfortable, enabling them to use this technology wherever they want to go. Several companies have launched their own self-driving campaign and tested as Google in 2009 on public streets (Davies, 2016). It aimed at demonstrating that this technology is useful and effective for near-future growth.
There are several benefits for an autonomous vehicle. The most significant benefit is that it reduces car accident on a road. Several organizations have coordinated various strategies to design more environmentally friendly, effective working systems. The enormous number of deaths rose rapidly from the past to the present, so many organizations and authorities worked together to solve this problem. The statistics show that 81% of vehicle accidents are caused by driver behaviour, so this innovation will help to prevent 6.3 million car accidents per year (as cited in Bennett, 2018). However, this innovation also offers comfortable lives for disabled people who are unable to drive on their own, which ensures they can travel safely away from home due to advanced driving systems. For example, the Tesla company has developed self-driving cars that have various significant hardware to make cars ' intelligent systems work extremely well, including 360-degree surround vision cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors ( “All Tesla Cars”, 2016 ). To explain, all autonomous cars can control themselves because there is various advanced assistance system that is more safety.
On the other hand, this technology often creates many drawbacks, which is why in today's world it is still a few common innovations. The first drawback is the error of judgments. The system may not be able to perform full capacity, and due to minor adjustments, it is likely losing the understanding of traffic signs. It may not be able to make a firm decision in unpredictable accidents between wheeling back and hitting other environmental objects or individuals. A survey of Smith's Lawyers found that only 21% of Australian drivers will trust this technology because most drivers still believe that self-control is stable(Luehrs, 2018). Consequently, if there are some smart feature failures, the car will not be able to drive safely. Another reason is that high unemployment rates can result from driverless cars. Most car insurance companies have to contend with the diminishing road accidents that lead to a large number of customers being injured. According to Overt (2018), accident in the U.S. tend to decrease from 37,000 people dead on the road each year, and as many as 40 percents of car drivers are likely to turn to use the self-driving car in 2025, so most public drivers and insurance companies lose their profits and may ultimately go into debt. To explain, this company may need to reduce the number of workers in order to save the excess spending on a monthly basis.
Transportation is rapidly becoming one of the major factors of everyday life. Some people also strongly believe that car drivers should fill normal cars with security and clear direction of control. This technology, however, will be extremely successful. There is an automated driver assistance system (ADAS), also known as the Co-Pilot, which helps prevent collision with commercial vehicles, including public and private cars. Many organisations are modifying their business processes to use Co-Pilot software to increase safety while increasing driver fatigue, and this capacity is being adapted for many luxury car companies. The Department of Transportation statistics showed that in the United States there are nearly 4,000 deaths each year due to large truck collisions, so the ADAS system will be a major adjustment to modulate accidents (as in Harris, 2018). In turn, this breakthrough would reduce the insurance costs for some car drivers that may not be affordable. When driverless cars ' insurance costs are cheaper than manual cars, most people are likely to make extreme use of this technology. The projected number of self-driving cars increased significantly from 2015 to 2020 due to high-tech driver systems and low-cost insurance (Newman, 2016). Many new innovations have many obstacles and problems that contribute to the quest for effective solutions. To be more reliable and efficient systems, all active safety tools, sensors and map information will be built so that drivers can rely on this ADAS. Autopilot, for example, a Tesla software system, is created and built over a long period of time for the high potential of cameras and sensors around cars with a maximum range of 250 meters (Gupton, n.d). It means that many companies are working hard to achieve their targets, even though this driverless technology poses many obstacles.
To conclude, automotive innovations and skills offer significant advantages. This technology has introduced a variety of intelligent technologies that can a lot of road accidents. Further comfort and autonomy in life can also be created by the added technologies, so unexpected situations would not affect both car drivers and passengers. While autonomous cars have some disadvantages, designers must try the greatest solution to eventually eradicate these issues.
