Review Of Jawaharlal Nehru's Letters From A Father To His Daughter

A daughter’s father is in prison, to make up for the time he wasn’t with her he wrote letters about life itself and all the morals that comes with living. The father’s only way to keep in contact with his daughter is to write letters about real life things. They write back and forth and he teacher her some different languages, and history as he is serving his time in prison. The setting of this story sounds appropriate to me because it’s an Indian author who wrote the book and he knows about the lifestyle in Allahabad. The characters in this story are not comfortable because Jawaharlal Nehru’s daughter is in Mussoorie and he is in prison in Allahabad, India. This story’s setting is described by the author. The author describes how human and animal life came onto the earth, society, civilization and the different languages that are being discussed in Allahabad, so his daughter can picture everything he is writing to her. The setting of Letters from a Father to his daughter creates a sad but inspirational mood to the story. I can picture in my head what he is going through even though i'm not actually there to see for myself. There are so many words that can describe this setting but one really good word is international structure.

Jawaharlal Nehru builds up little by little what he is going through and describes his view of life. The characters would not have changed if the story was different because Jawaharlal Nehru wrote the story himself about actual events that happened. This story is larger that what it seems, it symbolizes time and distance from his and his daughter. The setting changes when he asks her is she tired of his letters. Ofcourse she says no because that is the only way they could communicate. This new setting changed caused him very much happiness because all he wants is to keep a strong relationship with his daughter. The bondage within this happiness and gladness shows that she is enjoying learning and imaging the things her dad is telling her. The characters are very similar because they both enjoy writing back and forth to one another. I think the daughter is more important because every child needs both parents in their lives. I know this because as he is talking about freedom, humanity and other things, he wants to make sure he gives his daughter the world.

The mood of the father is he wants to be able to be a dependable dad as he writes about the thing they do in different cultures so she can know what to expect when she is older. In chapter 1 of this book, Jawaharlal Nehru states that “You (his daughter) ofter ask me questions about many things and I try my best to answer them, but now that you are in Mussoorie and I’m in Allahabad we cannot have those talks”. The distance between them changes the way they associate with each other. They use to have long and in depth conversations now they are writing letters back and father but can’t hear each other's voices. If this situation was different were her mom was gone and her dad was with her it would be more harder to handle. I know this because Indria is a girl and her dad wouldn’t be able to teach her certain things that her mother could. I can infer that Jawaharlal feels honored to be able to keep in contact with his daughter. The mood of this story is still sad because they are so far apart from each other. The mood of the character still hasn’t changed. As Jawaharlal is writing this story you can tell his actions are to expose his daughter to more of the world the what she just sees.

There are no dynamic, static, flat or round characters in Letter from a Father to His Daughter. The problem in this story is distance and lack of freedom in India. This was mainly caused by war and trading rights. This event was a problem for him, his family back home and anyone else who was in Allahabad. This was a problem for people in Allahabad but not people in China. This tells me that Allahabad must have owed China money or something. This problem was between the leaders or each country because they are responsible for making sure there country is at safety at all times. This problem is a primary problem. I know this because in the book he wrote about how they had economically deprived issues and the people need to do better about dividing certain objects among the different countries. This problem does change the characters moods. Indria can’t go back to Allahabad to see her dad because of the wars with the different countries and he got put in jail and has no choice but to serve his time. Jawaharlal still continues to write to his daughter about the different religious he is noticing. In the book he also states about how “Aryans came to India and taught The Great Epics”, but explains it so his daughter can understand.

The problem was completely solved and now the countries are better. India now has there own independence. He was pleased because he didn’t have to worry about his country safety as much as he did before. Jawaharlal had a big responsibility to make sure that nothing doesn’t happen with his family. This solution does not form another problem. Read this book was like I was in it myself. Him solving problems with his family was streets release off his shoulders. This book was published 1929 when he was leading Indian. Now till this day we don’t hear about any war with them. The lesson I learned from this story is don’t take and not give back because that can cause multiple issues. This story was a great book of knowledge. His daughter Inria learns that there is more to life than what you see now. The main idea of Letter from a Father to His Daughter, is that each letter Jawaharlal wrote to his daughter was to give her aspect of what he was going through but he made sure she understood even though she is around 10 years old at the time. The story began when you read a letter a the very beginning of the book when he is apologizing for his absent in her life. In the middle of the story he starts to write about old tribes who took many things for granted. At the end of the story every aspect of the letters he wrote to her had a meaning and he states “And although they were written long ago, every child in Indian should be influenced by them”. I think the story could have ended with him saying when he will be returning back with his family. This could have changed the characters moods and she could have been looking forward to his presents. The result of the ending could have had more emotion and happiness.

In the text I feel that he kind of felt powerless. You can see throughout all of his letters that his daughter is his top motivation to do better. Jawaharlal shows a bunch of affection that he loves and cares about his daughter and wants to do a lot for her. The author didn’t want his daughter to hate him for being gone so long. This story is kind of like an investigation at first. Your trying to find out where is Indira's dad and why is he gone. As you get further into the story you start to figure out her father is in jail for lying and cheating with money. The main characters both grow from the long distance of not seeing each other but they keep in touch by writing letters. I learn that his values for his country are very important to him. You can make many inferences about the title of this book. The massage from the title lets you know the only thing on his mind while he is gone is keeping in contact with his daughter. The main message of this story is that the world is bigger than what you know. Some elements can that helped me infer the theme was as Jawaharlal Nehru wrote these letters he gives detail and emotion as he informs her on the real world. A “symbol” that help cover the theme is how he was so blunt and captured his love for the society and nature. Nehru a universal theme is when he went to England a talks about how their culture is different and how they have Kings and Queens. Another one is when Nehru tells Indria about the different types of religions there is all over the world. He isn’t just caught up in India but he tells Indria that its more in other countries and cretan thing they can offer her that India can’t. Even though he stole he says he still respects all of India.

This story taught me how everything has a outcome to it. Life is like a deck of cards and you have to play by the rules, if you decide to cheat then there are consequences to your actions. Be careful of how you go about thing don’t steal because you don’t have. You have to work for everything you want and need.
