Personal Philosophy In Nursing: Teamwork And Effective Communication

Every individual held beliefs, attitudes, and values that influence our behavior every day. Each one of us has a unique set of personal values that have been ingrained within ourselves from when we were very young. These values are both cultural and intergenerational and influence all our actions and behaviors. Some are unconsciously held values and others we are aware of. Personal and professional values of healthcare providers influence their clinical decisions. My value, belief which are related to nursing are discussed below: 

Effective communication: I belief that if person has good communication skill that facilitate both information sharing and decision making. 

Teamwork: I believe in teamwork because in teamwork group of people will interact interdependently with a common purpose, working toward measurable goals. 

Empathy: It is the ability to understand the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of the patient. 

Continuous learning: Another trait that ensures my career growth is having a continuous learning approach. A person must learn from every opportunity provided. I always try to accept what I do not know and try to learn it from others. Applying personal values, belief in nursing metaparadigm: 

Person: An individual is characterized as the one getting the nursing care (Johnson, 2018). If there is an effective communication between patients they serve and the physician they work alongside, our team members do their best to improve patient satisfaction and ensure that their patients are receiving the best care possible. “Buber considers 'I-Thou' communication the highest level of human interaction. When communicating at this level, we move beyond social roles and into the uniqueness of the individual. In I-Thou dialogues, we assume trust and are likely to disclose deep, more private, aspects of ourselves” (Wood, n.d.). I think that this type of communication is required between the care provider and patient in the nursing profession to provide quality care. 

Health: Health is regarded as the patient’s healthcare continuum (Johnson, 2018). In my perspective, the healthcare profession helps patients achieve ideal well-being and copes with disease and disability periods. But without teamwork its not possible to provide holistic care to patient. Environment: The area or space in which individual live is seen as environment (Johnson, 2018). According to my understanding, the environment is not just the physical surrounding its more than that like how they feel with others, how nurse understand the feeling of patients. 

Nursing: According to my perspective nursing is the sum of knowledge, information, and learning of different health conditions, learn how to deal with different situations. Continue learning is a pathway to provide better care, take effective decision in difficult situations. If nurse has knowledge, then she can apply that knowledge into the practical form to provide quality care to patients. 

Personal philosophy of nursing using paradigms and its importance: For me, nursing is the profession in which I must provide the care to the patient to save their quality of life. In nursing, the most important thing is that health professional work together, listen to team member as well as to patient to provide comprehensive care to save the life of people, help to prevent the illnesses. Nursing is important because nurses are the one who interconnect the patient with other health care professional like physician, specialist or other health professionals. The nurse utilizes the nursing process to asses the need and to evaluate the information from wide range of sources. I will use my technical knowledge as a nurse to assist the patient to attain optimal health, comforting and nurturing abilities. 

According to Imogene M. King theorist, nursing is a method whereby nurses and clients share their perceptions in the nursing environment, react and interact with one another and communicate with each other to identify objectives and explore ways and agree on the mean to attain the objectives. In addition, it involves interaction between the nurse and the patient (Wayne, 2019). If the nurse has her own philosophy, then she knew how and when to use that philosophy to provide care to the patient. The relationship between personal nursing philosophy and practice: I think that care, understanding and integrity are the essence of nursing system. Patient centeredness is the focus of health care. Moreover, when my personal beliefs conflict with the patient, then I strive to seek a leader to guide me through my conflicts and find a solution that meets the patient needs without jeopardizing my own system of belief. But my values and belief motivate me to do best work. Example of practice that relate to personal nursing philosophy: I has work experience in hospital.one example which I want to share here is that, one day I was posted in nephrology ward. I was the only one nurse on that day to handle the six patients in ward. I knew that one patient is sick. 

So, I need to pay more attention toward that patient according to patient conditions. I was just started my job and preparing the medication tray to provide medication to patients. Suddenly, I notice that patient condition start deteriorating. I assess the patient and I knew that I need to activate the blue code. I just run and activated the code blue. Then, I just started to bring essential equipment’s near to patient so that when the code blue team arrive, they can start the procedure of cardiac pulmonary resuscitation without wasting any time.so, when the team arrived, I communicated patient health condition with the leader of code blue team then he was able to provide the instruction to us. So, that we can work together to save the patient. In this condition I was not able to handle the patient individually. I need to collaborate, communicate patient condition with another team member to save the patient life. Here, I utilize my personal philosophy and the ability to recognize the patient deteriorating condition and I responded according via activating code blue. So, here I use my knowledge, effective communication skill for making right decision at right time.
