National Honor Society: Scholarship Application
I feel honored to have been chosen to apply for the National Honor Society scholarship. In this essay I will discuss how, as a chosen candidate, I believe I could really demonstrate the type of person I am to my peers and community and I feel like I could be a part of big things in the community. I have worked so hard to get where I am today and to get the trust and support from my teachers and principal. I am an independent, charismatic, honest person, although not many know me or see me that way, I feel like this program it could really help shine on those qualities. I believe that through knowledge and character, we can all make an impact in the lives of others.
I am a very academic based person. In a Hispanic household, I was always raised to get good grades and to never fail. It’s difficult living in this environment because even having a B in one class, my mom would just focus on that grade instead of noticing how I had A’s in all my other classes. With that, I have always been motivated to keep working hard and to keep getting those grades to seek that validation from my parents, just to someday hear the words, “I’m proud of you.” With that, I decided to join Peer Tutoring at my school so I can be a help to those who need it. Sometimes academics just come easier to others and I feel like I was blessed to be able to comprehend my studies well enough and with that, I want to help those who do not so well and struggle with that.
Something that really inspires me as well is character. My natural resting face is not the most appealing and it makes me look like a mean person but I honestly don’t think I am. I try my best to always be there for my friends or anyone in need and I try to help them out as much as I can, whether it’s if they need someone to talk to about their mental health or just need help with a simple assignment. I love being there for others and giving that support that I feel like I may have never really had or received. I always want people to strive and be their best. Through this program, I believe I can show others that there are people there for them and are here to help and they aren’t alone. Those certain people who have been with me every step of the way are the same people that motivate me to do the same.
Being chosen to be a member of this program is truly an honor and I am beyond grateful to have this opportunity. Being chosen for eligibility has shown me I have what it takes and has motivated me to go further and to create those higher goals I thought I couldn’t achieve. The trust and support given by my teachers and friends are what has kept me going and I am so grateful to have that support in my life. I am confident that I will be able to demonstrate the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, and being in this program will help me make that extra step and give me the boost of confidence needed to share my story and share my beliefs.
