How Family Relationships Affected My Decision Making

October 16th/2021, a day that everyone in my family will never forget. While the whole family is gathering at the same time, waiting for my cousin till he arrived, so the whole family can eat the dinner together. My Uncle has a phone call from the hospital, telling him that his son Omar is on the intensive care unit, after a freak car crash racing with other couple cars. Until this moment I can’t forget my Uncle and his wife’s reaction. It was a really hard day for us especially for his parents. I remember going to the hospital waiting for my cousin to wake up. But I had a feeling that he is going to be alive. But is he going to stay hale?

After five hours waiting, finally the doctor came to us, and asked who is the patient’s parent, everyone is completely quiet, waiting to listen what the doctor is going to say. The doctor said that he is going to be fine, it’s just about time, he will walk again but we need to start the physical treatment when the patient is ready to. It took my cousin and his family long time till they wake from their shock. Before the accident happened in two weeks, I went with my cousin and his friends for a barbeque party.

They are a group of early adults how are trying to be the coolest people ever,having some cigarettes and doing car show. When we are on our way back my cousin told me that he doesn’t like how his friends act, and how they try to show people how cool they are. I told him if you don’t like how they are acting, then why are you being with them, why are you acting like them? He was just like, that’s what people do in this age. He is doing things that he knows it’s wrong, it’s out of his behavior and values and he is still doing it. It’s just because of his friends’ pressure.

Sometime we do things that we don’t really want to do, but we are affected by our peer, and this is mostly happen with teenager. Peer pressure is when a person behavior is affected by someone else from his friends or from a group that he is in. That occur when a person think that their values is not enough to take decision, and think about what he/she is supposed to do, in that case this person think about listening what other people telling them to do, and they do it even if they know that they are wrong. In my cousin story, he knows that he is doing something wrong, but he still does it, because of his friends’ pressure.

Everyone in this life must take responsibility for their mistake. Some of the decision that we take might end up affecting our future and our life. But there are some ways that we can avoid those mistakes.

For example, we should follow our heart, but still think in our brains to have the right decision. Also, we should make sure that whatever we are doing is our choice, and if we want to have advice from someone, we should choose the right person to have advice from, as a grownup. In this way we can deal with peer pressure. In my opinion the best way to deal with social pressure is to walk away from the pressure. Some of the decision that we take might end up affecting our future and our life.
