Both of them have very different childhood before starting their career in music. Taylor Swift, who was born on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania, was raised by Mr. Scott and Mrs. Andrea Swift along with her brother, Austin, on her family’s Christmas tree farm. At the age of nine, she became interested in music, and she wanted to follow her grandmother’s footsteps who was an opera singer. Later on, she often traveled to New York City to take her vocal lessons and to Nashville to learn how to write songs. She also learned to play guitar through a local musician. Then, to pursue her music career, her family decided to move to Hendersonville, Tennessee. On the other hand, Katy Perry, who was also known as Katheryn Hudson, was born on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. She was raised by Mr. Keith Hudson and Mrs. Mary Perry, and she grew up with her younger brother, David, and her older sister, Angela, in a very conservative family. Because her parents were Christian, she wasn’t allowed to listen to any popular music, and they only let her listen to Christian music. To rebellious against her strict parents, she pierced her nose and started to sing in church. After her parents saw that she really into music, they decided to let her take vocal lessons. After that, she learned how to play guitar and how to write songs in Nashville.

Swift's and Perry's Career

Before becoming a famous female pop singer, they all started out with different genres on their first-ever album. After signing into Big Machine Records label, Taylor then released her country music debut album called, “Taylor Swift” on October 24, 2006. She wrote and co-wrote her songs about her personal life experience. The album reached number five on the Billboard 200 album chart in the US, and it was the longest-charting album in that decade. She was nominated and won many awards for the album. It was a very successful debut album. Unlike Taylor, Katy signed with Red Hills Records label, and then released her gospel music debut album titled, “Katy Hudson” on February 5, 2001. The songs on the album were about her childhood and religion. The album didn’t do well at all, and it was getting mixed reviews. She told in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “It reached literally maybe 100 people, and then the label went bankrupt.” Because of the failed label, she couldn’t continue marketing and promoting the album; therefore, leading it to a flopped album.

Personal Life of the Musicians

In real life, these two musicians have their own relationship status. Taylor has dated many actors and singers all her life, but they never last for a long time. Until today, there is a rumor that she has been dating a British actor, Joe Alwyn, for over two years. She has never spoken out about her dating rumor, and she wanted to keep her dating life personal. She has written many songs about him during her last two albums. In contrast, Katy was married to a British comedian, Russell Brand, on October 23, 2010. After 14 months of marriage, the two announced their divorce on December 30, 2011, because of conflict and busy schedules. Up until now, she is engaged to an American actor, Orlando Bloom, on February 15, 2019, by posting a photo of her engagement ring on Instagram.
