Bill Gates: The Role He Played In Technology
4th April 1975, New Mexico-United States, a 20 YR old Entrepreneur named Bill Gates was just about to launch a world changing company, little did he know in just over 40 YRS time he would be ranked the 2nd richest man worldwide with a net worth of US $98.3 billion dollars. For this research report, I have chosen Microsoft founder Bill Gates to Research. My questions in which I will be focusing on are. To what extent how his invention changed the world?, What challenges has he faced leading up to his invention, and since the launch? Questions he is always asking himself? How he has helped change the world in different ways? And lastly, how I could apply his daily attributes into my Day to Day life. So first we need to take a trip back to the year 1975.
1975, a year filled with preposterous hairstyles and decomposed disco music, also is the year Microsoft was launched. Microsoft, the 6th biggest tech company in the world with over 130,000 employee’s world-wide. Currently, there are 1.2 Billion people that use Microsoft worldwide, one being you right now reading this! Bill Gates has changed the world forever, with his invention of Microsoft office we can do so many things that we probably could not do without this service. Currently, the Microsoft office contains Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. Also, I bet you did not know Microsoft owns Skype another big service used all over. Over the years, the team at Microsoft has taken many services from their office and added many new and cool services, which lead me to believe that they are probably working on new services to enhance the Microsoft office. Since 1975, the company has simply been changing the world ever since, things like their first desktop in 2016 and even a mobile phone that was launched October 2010. I can quite easily say that Microsoft has changed my world with the likes of Skype, with skype I can do a live video stream with my Grandparents, Aunts Uncles and Cousins in Australia which is great for a good catch up. I am also able to complete and make my homework and assignments look superior with Word and PowerPoint.
“A breakthrough innovation, in its self,' this was said about Bill Gates first and failed Business Traf O Data. This “breakthrough” innovation was designed to read raw data and transfer it to reports for traffic engineers. What challenges, Bill Gates has faced leading up to his invention? Born as William Henry 'Bill' Gates III on October 28, 1955, he is the son of William H. Gates, Sr. and Mary Maxwell Gates. During Bill’s childhood he was always the school “Nerd,' at just 13 he programmed his first software program on his school’s computer. Graduating in 1973 with one of the highest SAT, scores 1590 out of 1600! He went on and applied for Harvard a year later where he successfully got in and left 2 years later. Bill Gates was just 17 when his first invention failed with business partner Paul Allen, who had a big part with Microsoft until he left in 1982 after being diagnosed with a medical condition, but as of 2014 still had US $100 million in shares with Microsoft. Even with the fail of Traf O Data in the early 70’s Bill Gates still staggered and persevered on to his launch with Microsoft in 1975 which had its own shares of problems. Coming close to the launch and creation of Microsoft Bill Gates said he became very nervous watching other business failing including his one which failed, Gates struggled with self-confidence and actually feared his new venture would be a bust. In an interview in 2018 with CNBC Make It he stated “Even the idea that Microsoft would be a big company, I never would admit that to myself,”. In the leadup to their business ideas Gate’s didn’t want anything to do with the tech industry until partner Paul Allen won him over. Even six years into their success Gates new they shouldn’t be hiring a lot of people with fears such as what if we didn’t get paid could we keep the payroll going? When Microsoft was just launched they were working a successes, but not long after people around Bill Gates’s age stopped buying the products all over the world which lead to huge financial issues. But, instead of giving up made new advertising strategies and improved their products leading to success yet again. During the leadup to the idea of Microsoft Gates wanted to drop out of College to start on his business venture which lead to not very happy parents who said no, it took him 1 year to convince his parents and look where he is now! During the creation of Microsoft they had to overcome the fact that paying for software did not exist in that time, So Bill and Paul were determined to change that and make the software better so it would be worthwhile they did just that and that was a very big change for the industry in that time! Another obstacle which I personally find very funny is when they had just started up they didn’t have a space to make their software’s so they used a place called CCC and overtime they needed more time on the computers and the company denied, so they hacked all the computers without them knowing… And funnily enough the company asked them to fix the problem not knowing it was them in return for unlimited use on the computers! And not long after the company went out of business, but not to worry as they had a new way to make the software, Paul’s father worked at a university so they used the computers there. All of these things I’ve just talked about relate really well to problems he’s faced because these are all sorts of different problems over his life and in different scenarios.
Is Microsoft making the personal-computing dream come true? These are the types of questions Bill Gates is always asking himself… This question came to me when I saw a blog website that Bill Gates used it was his final blog post in 2018, in the blog post he asked questions to himself at the age 63 that he would never have thought of at 25. Questions such as Did I devote enough time to my family? Did I develop new friendships and deepen old ones? So, What Questions Is he always asking himself? When I first found this website I was really interested that he was taking time out of his own life to write down and think about questions he should be and is asking himself, and sharing it to the world.
