Most known work of art that illustrates the natural world would be landscape paintings. The first landscape painting of the natural world was painted by the frescos from the Minoan Greece around the 1500 B.C. The Frescos didn’t not incorporate people or objects into their paintings because majority of the paintings could be used for several different purposes such as directions, scaling the distance between locations, letting people see places they never seen before.

The first image that I choose that illustrate the Natural World is George Seurat artwork called Evening, Honfleur. Seurat gave his artwork a horizon line to keep the sky and the ground proportion. He was big on using optical color mixture. Different tints of purple, and orange were used in the sky to give the illusion of the sun setting. When viewers view the image, they will notice that the water does look blue-greenish due to the sun setting. Seurat incorporated different shades in the water for it to look realistic by the light direction. Evening, Honfleur is a pointillism painting; pointillism is tiny dots of pure color next to each other. Viewers can notice the tiny dots when looking observing the painting close.

Childe Hassam’s painting A North East Headland has unity and variety. The rocks that are different shapes and sizes are contrasted by the roughness of the offshore. The analogous colors of blue gives unity to the work of art then the green, brown, and yellow offer variety. Hassam used different tints of blue to show the viewers the difference between the light and darks of the painting. While also separating the sky from the water from the different blues used. Childe Hassam’s successfully accomplish his goal for this painting which was to show the light shinning on a natural environment.

The final artwork that also illustrates the natural world is a painting “The Tetons-Snake River”, by Ansel Adams. Ansel painted this artwork to have rhythm. If the viewers look at the water and notice the different shade of grey to give the illusions of ripples in the water. The trees were painted at an angle to give the trees a rhythm and look like they are swaying. The clouds have shaded areas; the shaded areas represent where it was not exposed to the sun. The space in the clouds that are not shaded represents that the sun was exposed to those areas. With the artist using these techniques it gives the viewers a realistic view of a view they have never seen before.
