The legendary novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is about two migrant workers who make their way across Southern California to find new jobs to make a living. However, the setting take place around the time of the Great Depression and things start to take a turn for the two men which make the book amazing. Over many years, Of Mice and Men has been unfortunately banned schools and libraries. This book has been praised for its realism that it provides and is listed as one the top banned book in American history. Why would a book this amazing be banned? It was banned for its use of racial slurs, inappropriate language, vulgarity, and profanity. Keep in mind, John Steinbeck is a Nobel Prize winner for literature in 1962. There are distinctive viewpoints on why Of Mice of Men by John Steinbeck should not be a banned book.

To begin, Of Mice and Men teaches the world with stunning life lessons like following your dreams while never giving up. This is one of two key reasons why banning this book was such an unfitting and poor decision made as the story paints a clear and understanding picture of factual history throughout the times in the 1930’s. John Steinbeck talks about the way people use blasphemy on a daily basis. Hearing it every day isn’t okay but if Steinbeck is using real life examples for this story, it has to include all elements like vulgar and profanity statements. John Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and Men because of the intense way it's what used to describe the fear of the Great Depression era. The last example of life lessons is that the truth hurts. George had to kill Lennie to prevent the other guys from torturing him. Lennie wasn’t smart enough to outthink the other men who were coming after him. “He saw Lennie lying in the sand. Got him, by God. He went over and looked down at Lennie, and then he looked at George. Right in the back of the head, he said softly” (pg. 102).

Secondly, Of Mice and Men should not be a banned novel because of how it delivers a clear insight on the different types of literary techniques. Steinbeck practices eloquent ways to show how the characters Lennie and George are portrayed by their activities. In this situation, Lennie is described as being very clever but lacks common sense. Steinbeck uses imagery to show how the animals in the novel are depicted by Lennie himself. He writes, “Lennie covered his face with his huge paws and bleated with terror”. Psychological incapacity makes him unfit to deal with certain circumstances, the manner in which that others carry on and what they say or do. His size and absence of being smart are frequently underlined among him and animals. Lennie is progressively thoughtful on occurrences to animals, as these portrayals propose his comprehension and failure to see the outcomes of his conduct. They generally believe he's unfit to do things since he's old, despite the fact that he can do it.

This novel is critical on the fact that it instructs us about what it is to be human and how we conquered our issues. It additionally tells the best way to give consideration and love for the individuals who are in urgent need of it regardless of whether that individual is your closest companion.
