Creating the monster makes him the monster. Victor Frankenstein can be called the true monster because he makes it. He makes a monster and does not take care of it. He lets it go on its own and the monster has to learn how to take care of itself. He shows no empathy when he lets the monster go. “Begone! I do break my promise; never again will I create another like yourself, equal in deformity and wickedness”. Victor will refuse to accept his consequences from his actions. By creating the monster, rejecting it, and failing its one request of creating a mate is the reason why everyone he loves has died. He manages to destroy his own life along with the creatures because of his selfishness. Victor's poor life decisions is enough to call him the monster in the book.

Additionally, Frankenstein does not take responsibility for his actions. Victor will refuse to accept his consequences from his actions, him not taking care of his responsibilities is the reason why everyone he loved dies. The deaths in the book are because of his lack of responsibility for accepting his creature. He had it coming to him all along. He manages to destroy his own life along with the creatures. The creature realizes on page 133 when he says, “I am alone and miserable; man will not associate with me…” All he needs is someone to take him in and teach him the ways of his life. By physical description, the creature is often perceived as a monster in Frankenstein, but he is just a mistreated outcast in society and is trying to do the right thing.

Victor refuses to help the monster when it needs his help. He has been rejected by Victor numerous times throughout the whole book along with the family in the woods. The old blind man in the woods has no problem talking to the creature because he can't see his defimorties, but when the rest of the family returns home, “Agatha fainted, and Safie, unable to attend her friend, rushed out of the cottage Felix dashed to me to the ground and struck me violently with a stick. The creature just wants acceptance from Victor and mankind, but because he looks different than everyone else, he is an outcast on earth. Society judges the creature based on his looks and never gives his personality a chance. Victor is the true monster through his actions and personality throughout the entire book. Victor’s hostility towards the creature, with creating life, and the yearning for a God-like status and power of all reveal the inner monster Victor possesses. Victor is the real monster who destroys his life while the creature is just an outcast in society who yearns for affection and acceptence.

In conclusion these are the reasons why I think that Victor is the real monster of the story. His actions, his personality, and his responsibility are the reasons why I think he is the true monster. In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, she creates a monster and it is either between Frankenstein the creator of the monster or the creature that he makes. The real monster in the book Frankenstein is Victor Frankenstein because he creates the monster, does not take responsibility, and he refuses to help the monster when it needs his help.
