The Similarities between The Storyteller and The Drummer Boy of Shiloh
Have you ever read two stories that have been so similar yet so different? The two stories The Story Teller and The Drummer Boy of Shiloh are so similar yet still have their differences. In the Drummer Boy of Shiloh, the main character Joby (the drummer boy) is scared of going into battle but the General gives him confidence and makes him feel important. In 'The Storyteller', an aunt is traveling with three children in the same carriage as a stranger. The aunt first attempts to distract the children by drawing their attention to things outside the window. When she is unsuccessful at this, she tells them a short and rather boring story. The bachelor in turn tells them an unconventional but much more entertaining story. The Drummer Boy of Shiloh and The Storyteller are very different yet so similar. The two stories are very different, The Drummer Boy of Shiloh’s plot is about how a 14-year-old boy has a dream of going to the army and being the drummer boy. On the other hand, The Storytellers plot is about an aunt who is struggling to entertain 3 kids on a train and a bachelor saves her by telling another story that was very entertaining. They are also similar because both of the main characters face conflict during the story and both solve the conflict.
The Drummer Boy of Shiloh and The Storyteller are similar, as they both deal with the theme of Success is not always limited to one try. In the Drummer boy of Shiloh, Joby has been faced with man vs himself conflict because he is unsure about going into battle, but in the end, he faces his fears to moves on the face the battle. 'Well, when you got a bunch of wild horses on a loose rein somewhere, somehow you got to bring order, rein them in.'. In the Drummer boy of Shiloh this quote is important because the general tells Joby this to cheer him up and make him realize that in order to face a conflict you have to pull through and do it! In the Storyteller an aunt is faced with the conflict of entertaining three children in a train cart. In the end of the story the aunt finds a way of entertaining the kids, but not in the way she thought of. “It's very difficult to tell a story that children will understand and enjoy.”. In the storyteller this quote is important because the aunt was telling the bachelor that it would be hard to tell a good story the children will understand.
While the Drummer boy of Shiloh and The Storyteller are very similar, they are still very different. The two stories are very different because the Drummer boy of Shiloh’s plot is about how a 14-year-old boy has a dream of going to the army and being the drummer boy. “These lads, fresh out of the milkshed, don’t know what I know, and I can’t tell them: men actually die, in war. So, each is his own army. I got to make one army of them. And for that, boy, I need you.”. In the Drummer boy of Shiloh this quote is important because the general told the drummer boy that he needs him no matter what happens out in the fight. On the other hand, the Storytellers plot is about an aunt who is struggling to entertain 3 kids and a bachelor saves her by telling another story that was very entertaining. “You don't seem to be a success as a story-teller.”. In the storyteller this quote is important because the bachelor was telling a better story than the aunt, which made him think he was a better story teller.
In conclusion to the stories The Storyteller and The Drummer boy of Shiloh are both about Success is not always limited to one try. The Storyteller and The Drummer boy of Shiloh are both great stories about getting over conflict. In the end of both stories the main characters got over their conflict in the story. People should always find a way around a conflict no matter how easy or hard it would be.
