Is nepotism in a country bad? Nepotism exists throughout the world, it is unfair. Nowadays, people favour their relatives and friends by offering them jobs, even if they are not qualified for the job. There are many consequences which result in nepotism. Some consequences that will be explained include, contribution to poverty in a country, low employee morale in workshops which gives employees less incentive to work, economic failure in a country.

Nepotism is unacceptable and intolerable. If people continue practicing nepotism, then they must be one of the reasons that contribute to poverty in the country. People in authority want to share all the wealth there is with their relatives. This makes others unsatisfied and angry, because they are not given the chance to show that they deserve the money. If people in authority continue sharing their wealth with their relatives, then other people won't have money to fulfill their needs. Many people could end up fighting with the people in authority and disobeying them. Some people would say that nepotism is common only in workplaces. However, I contradict this argument because nepotism is shown in many countries such as Cuba and Indonesia. For instance, Fidel Castro which was the president of Cuba for many years, assigned his brother as a president without any votes by the people of Cuba ('Nepotism In The Workplace').

This shows that nepotism is practiced by people in many countries.

Secondly, another issue arising from nepotism is unfairness of employees. When employees discern that there is nepotism in how they are treated in their workshops, they feel demotivated, they tend to show their sadness by not working properly. If nepotism is shown in workshops then employees morale will be very low. “It has been observed that employees who have to put up with nepotism experience changes in their personalities as well”(Negative Effects Of Nepotism At The Workplace). Many employees deserve to be promoted rather than others that are not qualified for the job. Bosses that promote their relatives and friends at their jobs must be ashamed of themselves because they are causing corruption. Sometimes when people apply for a job, companies respond to them by telling them that they don't fit the job. Regardless of how qualified that person is in that job. Can you believe how ridiculous is this ? This shows that nepotism is unfair, because there won't be any jobs available for people with higher qualifications. Some people would say that helping your relatives and offering them jobs is much safer than offering the jobs to others. However, I strongly disagree with this argument. Many relatives and families could fight with each other and sometimes your relative could be underqualified for the position. Employees who are rewarded by their bosses for no good reason are likely to be underqualified for the position they are expected to fill.

Many countries suffer from economic failures, the main contributing factor could be nepotism. Nepotism affects the performance of many companies, this is due to low productivity and increase in conflicts. Employees who are underqualified won't do their job properly and skillfully. If nepotism is practiced by the bosses of the company, other employees won't have incentive to work. Employees who are supposed to obey the rules of the company, may disobey those rules and go against the company due to frustration. This leads to unpleasant results and bad outcomes. If companies kept losing competent employees. Eventually, this will lead to poorer outcomes and the country will suffer. Although in some countries, the economy won't be affected that much. However, companies will suffer a lot due to low productivity and employees with no motive to work.

Nepotism is often hard to avoid, or even to control if the relative is qualified for the position in the company or job. However, nepotism should be prohibited because it contributes to many negative effects and consequences as explained before, it contributes to poverty, leads to an economic failure or financial decrease, low employee morale. The practice of nepotism should decrease, and bosses should hire people based on their qualifications and skills. Bosses that employ their relatives and friends could cause many complications including, inefficiency and poor outcomes.
