During summer vacation, no one thinks about school or textbooks. Only when the first day of school is about to start, everyone scramble on what they need. The one essential of many things the student needs are textbooks. While both Textbooks and eTextbooks are vastly used among students and teachers everywhere. Most teachers uses the psychical textbooks and small percentage prefers to use the digital textbook call eTextbook. Though both Textbook and eTextbook may share the identical words but not the same page. Which can hinder the lesson plan that was already created.

Similarly both Textbooks and eTextbooks are loved and hated at the same time. Both Textbooks an eTextbooks are rentable from the school library or online like Chegg, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble; to name a few. Usually on the first day of class, the teacher will give instruction on what to get and where. However, to rent out a digital textbook one would need an electronic device such as Ipad, tablet, or a cell phone. And these devices do not come cheap. Although the psychical Textbook can be rented from the library or bought online. Both the physical and digital textbooks are a nuisance.

Although, both Textbooks and eTextbooks are used in most classrooms. The prices on an average textbook is around thirty dollars to a hundred-twenty five dollars. A textbook alone weighs approximately five pounds. Having to carry two textbooks everyday is very heavy to lug around. It is also strenuous for the back if you are carrying that much weight. On the other hand, having all digital textbook on one tablet is very relaxing on the back. The price for a digital textbook is friendlier on the student’s money bag then a psychical textbook. Only downside of having a tablet with all your digital textbook is that if there is no outlet to plug in. Then studying or doing can not be completed.

A textbooks was once a staple for studying in or outside of school. In this day and age we want to be simple. We do not have to carry to a textbook that weighs around five pound. Now we do not have to. We now have the option to get the digital version on our tablet to have and not to worry about how heavy it is going to be. Having a digital textbook on a tablet is that there is an expiration date. You can only use the digital textbook until that day. For the psychical textbook you can get an extension and keep the textbook a little longer, just got to pay a little fee. When buying a textbook, you can mark it with a highlighter, fold down the page you want to return to, and also jot down all kind of notes that you want. Having a digital textbook is harder to pinpoint the page you want to reference to. And most tablets does not have the highlight options.

In recent history, both textbooks and eTextbooks ignited a strong debate of which is better to use for study. Most textbooks are written by the teacher you are taking. Some teacher would say purchase the textbook over the digital format. Because they get a little kick back when a textbook is purchase. Purchasing the textbook is supporting the author. But despite the popularity contest of who is more desirable. eTextbooks is now slowly replacing its predecessor the Textbook.
