Arguments Against Censorship

Censorship is when a group of authorities such as the government, schools, and even parents can use to block off information that could pose a threat to the people they want to protect. Censorship as of a result has many different types of intensity. Such as paternal controls or web filters. Internet Privacy is a key focus in censorship as the world continues to develop the internet will play a bigger and bigger presence that’s why internet Privacy is important as blocking users the opportunity of near unlimited knowledge and information. As such the world has many different ways of using Censorship. The Western World like North America and Europe has some of the freest censorship laws in the world. The United States isn’t as nearly censored as say China due too mostly to the First Amendment. The Middle East is even more censored however with some countries such as Iran having the same levels of censorship as China. China is the most censored country on the planet that is an objective fact with the Great Firewall blocking Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube as well as freedom of speech, and International Media. It can also be able to access new web pages and block them in an instant

The question that arises from this analysis is: Is censorship necessary to ensure safety and protect the public, or does it ultimately undermine democracy and personal freedoms? Censorship needs to be supervised and maintained this means that every computer, phone, and any other device that can access the internet needs to be monitored. What happens if say a group of people use this information to blackmail or even threaten them physically? How do we know that people really do care about our safety? However, the biggest issue of Censorship is the fact that it deprives information. One of the biggest problems that censorship does is stop fake news and information. However, it can lead to that real information can be blocked. What if someone decides to censor massive pieces of information from the public and control the people themselves? China itself operates on this system of blocking information that could pose a threat to the CCP. This can all lead to a system where the governing body turns into a dictatorship where only a few control the needs of the entire nation. Censorship has been used in the Soviet Union, China, Laos, Belarus, and Iran. All of these countries have undermined and opposed democracy and the personal freedoms of the people.
