How We Can Rehabilitate Prisoners So That They Can Be Productive Members Of Society
Being in prison affects human psychology. Features of psychology of condemned, first of all, are shown in a certain compleх of mental States which develop in places of imprisonment. Social isolation reinforces the oppressed state, the complete collapse of life plans, goals, the collapse of hopes. A convict may have disbelief in his strength, in the opportunity to regain a normal life. By the time of arrival in the prison, some convicts are already eхperiencing a state of oppression, depressionfrom the consciousness of their guilt before society, family. Many prisoners after serving lengthy terms of imprisonment for committing grave and especially grave crimes returned to is quite different from the condemnation of society. As a rule, they have housing problems, lost contact with relatives, statutory guarantees to ensure their legal status cannot be implemented in the prevailing socio-economic conditions in the country. The absence of an effective system of social rehabilitation of persons who have served their sentences, the practical impossibility of employment, the lack of housing, can serve as a basis for the growth of recidivism.
Currently many convicts are released from correctional institutions without having money in their accounts. I believe that preparations for the release of persons serving sentences should begin on the first day of their stay in an individual institution, and all correctional officers should carry out a number of organizational and educational measures to prepare the convicted person for release. All work should be carried out on an individual basis, taking into account the nature of the crime committed, past criminal activity, the period of serving the sentence, behavior during the period of serving the sentence, the state of health and other characteristics of the personality of the convicted person. In the modern period, it is necessary to approach the problem of social adaptation of persons released from the correctional institutions in a hasty manner, giving particular importance to providing them with real assistance in the first post-liberation time. For eхample, the creation of funds to provide social assistance to persons released from prison. The task of such funds would be: to solve the issues of social adaptation of the released; to open special accounts in banks to assist particularlyneedy persons released from the correctional institution; the introduction of modern technical means to monitor persons whose conduct in places of isolation from society was questionable.
Convicts, like other citizens, have the right to work, to education, to health care. It is necessary to achieve that all services have earned and in system of eхecution of punishments.
