Introduction

In this research paper, I will explore the great history of theater and Architecture during the Queen Elizabeth I of England, reign in between the year of 1533 to 1603. She was the daughter of king Henry ViiI and his second wife, Anne Boleyn (She considered “too headstrong” fought with Henry and accused of adultery), was only 3 years old when her mother died. Although she was declared illegitimate child and alienate from the royal family at the early age, however she becomes the most successful monarch in England history later on. Elizabethan Era, well known as renaissance and the age of art exploration enormous classic artworks were ever created throughout entire Europe, also considered the blossoming of theatres and Architectures, many of the classic productions are still favored today.

Queen Elizabeth was incredibly intelligent and has strong academic accomplishments on Languages art. Theater is a place where to express art lively, it’s one of the reasons why she interest in playhouses and encourage playwrights for entertainment. The performances were written by the brilliant English Playwrights and dramatists, such as William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, Thomas Dekker etc. Most of the famous plays are credited by William Shakespeare, his plays regardless the category of Tragedies (In:Romeo and Juliet) and comedies, centre on the conflicts between love and hate with using advance literary devices to emphasize character’s feelings. The characters were set based on human personalities, the bright and dark sides of us, the emotions of human beings, “Characters did not represent people, but human qualities, such as knowledge, beauty, and truth. ” Every story lead audiences to deep reflections and give moral lessons of life.

Theatre also plays the significant roles of education strategy, “Schools and universities required students to perform in plays to teach them speech, diction, and self confidence” It helps developed people’s literacy and ability to behave the best of themselves. The construction of the theatres is quite delicacy and stylish design, it's a semi-circular building has three floors; within rooms that are open space filled up with stair seatings, surrounded the stage at the side, which could takes up to 3000 people, used up every angle spot to create plenty of seats for audiences.

Production in Architectures

The Architecture in period of Elizabethan Era are distinct between lower class and upper class. The lower classes were mainly poor people or farmers who work for wealthy landlords with meager earnings, therefore their houses were like small shelters and made of natural resources, rough Woods form square walls, applied mud, branches, or straw as the cover on the top. Interestingly, when the sun blazing down on the roofs, animals would like climbed up there because it’s warm and comfortable sleep on the straws, therefore when it starts to rain, they would fall off from the roofs.

Later on, this phenomenon lead to the phrase of “It’s raining cats and dogs“ to refers raining heavily. Compared with Upper class, usually doctors and merchants or great amount of incomes, they are able to afford better and expensive materials, including fancy patterns for decorations. Long Glass window panes and chimneys are made from the bricks or Stones, put mud in between in order to stick together. They had a lot more storage and extra room for activities and securities- fireplace, veranda and multiple entrances.

The characteristics of Elizabethan Architecture is medieval Gothic architecture, there are heavy stone structures, multiple pointed/flying arches, pointed and flying arches, large of window glass with symmetric patterns and tall pillars. Those are originally transformed by Romanesque architecture in 12th century, which utilized semi-circle and archway as specialty form style of thick, solid, square and stocky.
