Dear Mr. President, I am writing to you today about a person that I believe deserves a national holiday. Now this title shouldn’t be giving to just anyone and Eleanor Roosevelt isn’t just anyone. She became one of the most powerful people in America. Participation in political stand points is important because without a voice and a want to change, nothing will be different. Eleanor Roosevelt fought for equivalent rights for everyone and to bring everyone together with peace.

She fought for blacks, whites, poors, men, and women. She became a first lady after her husband Franklin Roosevelt was taken in as president in March 1933. She did a lot for her husband, like for one was his eyes and ears in the world outside. Also worked hard to protect his husbands image. Due to her husband's unfaithfulness it is to say it caused Roosevelt to be more free spirited and focus on her political and social causes. Eleanor then began to change the conventional position of first lady from social hostess to, being more involved in her husband's role as president.

She was very quick with civil rightness for African Americans, and also on board for women, workers and less fortuned. In the years between 1946 and 1953, she assisted in the U. S delegate to the United Nations. Here Roosevelt looked after the drafting and passage of the Universal Human Declaration of Rights, or known as UHDR. She viewed these documents as a way to represent how not only people but nations included should act towards one another. This achievement left citizen with a statement that was never forgotten and changed the way people acted towards their community around them.

She lead the first Presidential Commission for Woman, petitioned by John Kennedy. Which afterwards made a study about gender discrimination come out. Roosevelt’s loyalty to race-related justice pushed Washington to steps in housing desegregation and defense for Freedom Riders and others. In addition she worked on countless organizations. For example the NAACP(National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the ACPC(Advisory Council for the Peace Corps. Even when she was no longer part of the government and in their ideas, she still fought for people close and far. Together with all these reasons, that is why I believe Eleanor Roosevelt should have a national holiday.

Sincerely,

Lisa Arce
