Sykes did not like the fact that Delia worked for the white folk, so he tried his best to talk down her and her job. "Ah done tole you time and again to keep them white folks' clothes outa dis house," says Skyes’ as he tries to start an argument with her. Today some women are making more money than men and climbing the latter of success. After two months of marriage he gave her the first brutal beating. The short story “Girl” gives a glance at the association between a young woman and her mother. The young woman addresses Kincaid in her adolescence. The story shows that, in this relationship, the mother tries to underwrite the practices that she thinks about legitimate for females. For example, the woman tells the girl, “don’t walk bare-head in the hot sun.” She expects and powers these practices on the young woman. In addition, obviously the young woman is constrained inside these suggested rehearses. Such constrictive condition is a result of the mother's dominating behavior toward the young woman. Considering Kincaid's understanding and furthermore the social catchphrases used, the short story underlines how certain social characteristics are gone ahead through the ages. In such way, the story bases on the significance of familial associations in shaping direct.

Society forces generalizations on youngsters. This condition is represented in “Girl”. The bearings and thoughts that the mother provides for her little girl are unfair of ladies in the public eye. For instance, the mother says that the little girl ought not play marbles like a kid, and that the young lady ought to do family unit errands. These announcements demonstrate that the mother trusts that there are a few things that females can't or ought not do. These generalizations build up the hole between the genders. Women are stereotyped by society as housewives, which make them feel suppressed. Women are curbed by society's points of view and are limited in circumstance, thusly women, for instance, Delia can't get what they need.

For Delia's circumstance she is a woman with an occupation, yet even with work she is so far weak to Sykes, her significant other. As a woman her chance is still burglarized from her by man’s mind-boggling power, which for her circumstance is Sykes' abuse towards her. It exhibits that men in the general population field can't resist negating women working at occupations, as showed up through Sykes' words, "Ah don't keer in case you never git through.”
