As we are living in the United States, which is well-known as the country of freedom and equality, we all know about Civil rights, Civil liberties as well as Equal rights. However, before the Civil rights movement was enacted, there was no freedom of speech, expression, religion or the right of privacy for everyone as today, but full of discrimination on race, gender, religion, and disability status. We are fortunate to live in a much better society now compared to the past, but it is still a controversial topic when mentioning about discrimination and inequality between genders and races in the U.S.

To begin with, somehow, inequality is still present even though we have the laws to protect equal rights. It is sad to say that although all are equal, not everyone is treated equally. One of the aspects that we can most clearly see the inequality is in education. Many voucher programs and scholarships have been provided to poor ethnic minorities. Racist schools are also considered unconstitutional, but these steps were not successful in providing a large number of students. In many parts of the United States where blacks and whites live separately, schools are still largely separate. With the same level of education and even higher white people, black people and other people of color have a hard time to find jobs sometimes.

Another significant issue that has been debated for decades is discrimination against minorities. LGBT community and same-sex marriage is a highlighted example. It is obvious that the Supreme Court of the United Sated legalized same-sex marriage and ruled that same-sex couple and an opposite-sex couple are recognized equally based on the marriage equality act. However, there are a lot of same-sex couples are currently experiencing discrimination. They are denied and discriminated by the people around them. Who says that we are living in a freedom country when many people out there cannot even live with their real gender?

To conclude, I personally think that we are living in a much better society than America when it was before the Civil rights movement. Nobody can deny that America has done a lot of things to promote equality for all citizen, but there are still much more works to do than they have done. Although the U.S still has not completely succeeded to achieve completely racial equality, there is no doubt that we can avoid the progress of black people over years. It can be seen that the gap between the growth of black Americans and white Americans may have been reduced to much greater levels. However, it is never too late to fix anything and obviously the scope for further improvement. I believe U.S government should care more and provide more support to the less fortunate groups in history, such as race, gender, ethnicity, and other minority groups because this approach based on equity is the only way leads to true equality.
