The story is narrated on behalf of the main character Forrest Gump - a man with a noble and open heart, but with limited mental competence, who tells the story of his extraordinary life. Surprisingly, life through the eyes of Forrest Gump is not at all terrible and hopeless, as many people imagine demented people.

The events of the picture begin at the bus stop from the moment Forrest opens the box of chocolates. And we embark on a journey through the life of the main character of the film, which is filled with many events, the key feature of which is his strong legs. Thanks to them, the hero runs faster than the car.

Forrest's life path is extremely tortuous. He goes to school because of his mother’s perseverance. Despite the fact that his IQ is 75, when he needs at least 80 for secondary school, Forrest not only manages to finish school, but also goes to university. He had no equal in American football and all because no one was able to catch up with him. After university, Forrest joins the army as a respectable citizen. Gump, like his new friend, “Bubba”, whom he met on an army bus, is sent to Vietnam. In Vietnam, Forrest shows heroism and gets wounded in a soft place. After the hospital, he serve the remaining time playing ping-pong.

Despite all his life's adventures, Forrest never forgets the dearest person. The girl Jenny, whom he met on the school bus, which was always for him the closest person after mom, the girl who will become his wife. But she did not immediately become his wife. After a night together and a marriage proposal, Jenny drops Forrest and leaves. Only three years later she will reappear in his life. Forrest finds out that he has a son whose name is also Forrest and that Jenny is terminally ill. Forrest takes Jenny with his son to his home, take care of her, brings up son. This time, Jenny makes Forest a proposal for marriage, he agrees. Shortly after the wedding, Jenny gets worse and she dies. Forrest buries her under the tree they climbed in his youth. In the final shots of this touching movie, Gump sends his son to school on the same bus that he and Jenny drove many years ago. It is worth noting that the most significant acquaintances for Forrest happen on the bus, and while waiting for the bus the hero tells his story.
