Cory Booker might not have been able to impact so many people's lives and have the political career he does today if not for his parents; Carolyn and Cary Booker, who were amongst the first black executives at multinational IT company, IBM. Booker's father, Cary, was originally from Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he was raised by a single mother and her large extended family. When the time came for him to go to college, his whole community raised the funds he needed to attend North Carolina College as he also had to do some construction and other hard labor jobs to support himself. After college, Cary moved to Washington D. C. to take a job at IBM. It was here that he met and fell in love with his future wife, Carolyn. The couple got married and moved to New Jersey in 1969 where they both became active in the civil right movement. Booker's parents worked very hard to afford a life that shielded their children from societal and civil rights issues but however nurtured them to be aware of what was going on around them in order for them to try to be able to make a difference in the future.
