The show has now been ranked among many other American TV shows which could not scale past its first season. Plot

Production

The show is a follow up TV series of the teen drama mystery series Pretty Little Liars. While the original show Pretty Little Liars was still being aired, Ian Marlene King, the developer of Pretty Little Liars announced that she would be adapting another screenplay from Sara Shepard’s novel series The Perfectionists and it would be a sequel to the already being aired Pretty Little Liars. Ian made the announcement of adopting the series sometime in November 2014 and it would be the second spin-off series of Pretty Little Liars since Ravenswood.

Production

Production of the series began in 2018 just after the conclusion of Pretty Little Liars. Two stars from the original series were brought to star in the sequel of the show which concluded in 2017. Since the announcement of the intentions of developing Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists in 2014, production had to wait till the conclusion of Pretty Little Liars as the show could not be produced simultaneously and the sequel show would feature some cast from the original show.

Filming

Filming was announced would take place in Portland, Oregon after being revealed by Freeform on January 23, 2018. Filming of the show began in March 2018. The pilot of the show began to be filmed on March 12, 2018 and was concluded in the final week of March 2018. The show began to be filmed on October 17, 2018 and filming was finished on January 23, 2019.

Expectations placed on the show were high as a result of the success gained by its mother show. Fans of Pretty Little Liars quickly switched their attentions to Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists as it was a spin-off to the original show. But did the show disappoint and did not reach the standards set by the original show leading to its cancelation? Judging by the critics response and ratings, the series got a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but was based on just 11 reviews. On IMDb, it earned almost equal ratings as its original show did, being rated 7.2/10 following 2,684 reviews but the original earned its 7.4/10 ratings from 144,615 reviews.

Some of the problems which led to Freeform canceling the show was that it did not have the amount of viewers stats like the original series did. Adding to its low viewing stat was its social media following, which was low as well. Pretty Little Liars holds the record for the highest rated show aired on Freeform while its spin-off series has recorded one of the lowest rated scripted series on the cable network and it made Freeform cancel the show. The show’s cancelation was announced on September 27, 2019.
